SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL ACTOR FEATURES AND POSITIONING IN CONFLICT REGARDING THE MADEIRA RIVER HYDROELECTRIC PLANT CONSTRUCTION

The study aimed to identify the actors, their characteristics and positions in major environmental conflicts inherent to the construction of the Santo Antônio and Jirau hydroelectric power plants on the Madeira River. Papers on the subject were the data source and content analysis was adopted for their treatment. There was an analysis of 205 out of the more than 600 documents found on the issue, selected due to their relevant information about the proposed study. For the characterization of actors and their positions, the approaches proposed by Gloria Vargas and Elimar Nascimento were adopted. Actors were found out to have been revolving around a few macro conflicts, which are: Licensing, International, Ethnicity, the Madeira Mamore Railroad, Triangulo Village, Population Displacement. Regarding the positioning of the actors, it was found out to be promoting or vetoing until the licensing achievement, when it cooled around support and opposition.Downloads
